The Ceremonial First Post

A couple of things…

When we think of ways to breath new life into our city, it is fun to look to other places for ideas that seem to work. The things we see, that attract us to their possibilities, are really a product. Seth Godin suggests in his book, Purple Cow, that creating a remarkable product, comes from mimicking the behaviors of the creators, not necessarily the product.

So, the next time you visit a town with a product that we would love to have in Portsmouth, dig deeper into what behaviors are in place that allowed its creation.

For example, thriving retail establishments may be the product, but a strong association of those involved is the behavior. Technology startups may be a product, but the behavior is a cutting edge program at a local university. Sustainable initiatives are a product, but strong leaders with passion for a healthier place to live are the behavior.

What behavior do you need? to get the product you desire?

This promises to be a wonderful blog with useful information. The more we learn about what’s out there, the better equipped we will be in helping our city thrive. Thank you for taking the time and initiative to offer this type of forum.

I think your blog is a very helpful tool that can make many of us look a little deeper into what makes for success in small downtowns. Keep the creative juices flowing.
